IMDB rating: 5.60 Plot: Eight years after the InGen incident, Dr. Alan Grant is happy with his life far from any dinosaurs other than fossilized. Unfortunately, he is extremely short in research money, and therefore accepts the offer of wealthy businessman Paul Kirby: A low flight over isolated Isla Sorna, where InGen’s second research site was located, and Dr. Grant can fund his future research for a long time. What Dr. Grant didn’t know is that Kirby just needs a dinosaur expert to help him and his wife find their 14-year-old son Eric, who crashed on the island while paragliding. What he did suspect, but never wanted to witness, is that the Velociraptors have evolved into a communicating species (and seemingly all along had the capability to do so), now being smarter than primates. |

Why are animated movies more expensive than live-action movies?
Here is a list of animated movies made by Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks …
Tarzan
Wall-E
Chicken Little
Shrek 2
Ratatouille
Shrek the Third
Kung-Fu Panda
Bolt
Bee Movie
Treasure Planet
Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa
… all of the movies listed above have budgets that go from 130 - 180 million dollars.
Now let’s compare that to the budgets of live-action movies with incredibly high special-effects extravaganzas.
Eagle Eye <> 80 million
Cloverfield <> 25 million
Jurassic Park <> 63 million
The Lost World: Jurassic Park <> 73 million
Jurassic Park III <> 93 million
Lord of the Rings trilogy <> 93 - 94 million, each
Star Wars prequel trilogy <> 115 -117 million, each
Alien Vs Predator <> 60 million
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans <> 35 million
The Haunted Mansion <> 90 million
Around the World in 80 Days <> 110 million
Bridge to Terabithia <> 60 million
…
Particularly when you start talking about computer animated films, it usually takes about 3 years to make (as opposed to the few months of filming), largely because the detail in each frame is so high that it takes 12+ hours of a top-of-the-line computer grinding away just to make a single frame of animation.

Think about it. How much would it cost to animate everything, to create everything virtually? And then have to add in the sound in a foley place later on?

getting people to talk in front of a camera with minimal special effects is much cheaper than an entire movie of ONLY special effects.

I have never looked into this so giving you an educated answer is far from possible. But what I can do is let you know what I think (whatever that’s worth Lol).
Since animated movies are widely based on the voice actors’ ability to manipulate their voices in such a way that it fits the character’s profile, a lot of dedicated, and even vocally talented, artists will have to be hired. You would need, I’m guessing, lots of experience in this kind of "acting."
On the other hand, some animators demand to be payed what would seem like ridiculously large amounts of money. Animation is a very long, tiring, complicated thing that involves lots and lots of hard work. It’s not just "ohh, I’ll draw this figure bending down," it’s more like… "I have to finish this sequence of drawings that, in movie time, will only last a good five minutes but will take me a large amount of time to complete because of the complex steps necessary to creating it."
But like I said before, this is just an answer based on what little foreknowledge I have on this subject. (:
